We travel on national road number 6 about 50 minutes to the typical Khmer village of Kampong Phluk where you will visit to one of the largest and least visited villages on the Great Tonle Sap Lake and it is a fishing community located on the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia.
You’ll take a wooden boat to the village where you will get a glimpse of daily life in Cambodia, discover an amazing and different way of life in the largest freshwater lake Tonle Sap in South Asia. There are nearly 1,000 families of Khmer origin who have fished and farmed the region for generations. You get a fascinating insight into local life by exploring the stilt houses which, during the dry season, are 7m high, but during the rainy season they are only about 1 meter above water level.
Explore the beautiful landscape of the flooded mangrove forest and learn about this incredible natural flood barrier. In the village where animals, pigs, dogs, chickens, ducks and of course humans live, all competing for space in this incredible floating villages. It is definitely one of the highlights of a vacation to Cambodia. Kampong Phluk is one of the unmissable floating villages. The whole trip takes approximately 4 hours.
