We leave Siem Reap and travel east and then south on national road number 6 to Kampong Kdei, this was an ancient Angkor route that we can see one of the ancient Angkor bridges built in the 12th century. Spean Praptos or local resident called Dragon Bridge, it has over 20 arches and is a spectacular sight, reinforcing the impression that the Khmers were like the Romans of Southeast Asia.

Our road trip continues to Kampong Thom, the second largest and central province of Cambodian and to Kampong Cham where there is the option to take a break at Skuon, affectionately known as Spiderville Cambodia, the popular place for Cambodian and foreign travelers where it is possible to taste the local delicacy of tarantula fried and other fried insects. We make a short stop to explore this market in Spider Town, you can also try various seasonal local fruits from the region and islands in the Mekong River. However, if you don’t want to taste spider, cricket, scorpion, grasshopper or other insects, this is also a good place to take pictures. The driver will make a few stops for snack, restroom or coffee along the way, as needed.

To avoid traffic jams, our route does not pass-through Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. We travel from Skuon to Phnom Udong mountain, northwest of Phnom Penh. It was the site of the royal capital from the 17th to the 19th century. The journey on road number 51 and 41 to national road number 3 to Kampot There are absolutely stunning landscapes along the way, where you can stop to take a look and take pictures. We travel from Kampot for another 20 km until you arrive at your destination in Kep.

The entire journey takes about 9 hours. Please note that the travel time may be slightly longer due to traffic.
