We leave Siem Reap at 8:00 am and travel east and then south on national road number 6. It is just 55km away from Siem Reap, we make a stop to visit to one of the largest and least visited villages on the Great Tonle Sap Lake, Kampong Khleang is the largest community located on the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. It has more than 10,000 inhabitants, most of whom live from the fishing industry. We discover the canals in the wet season or the streets in the dry season of this incredible village. In the rainy season, the houses seem to float, as the water laps over the verandas, but in the dry season, towering piles are revealed, the houses almost look like wooden skyscrapers. We will take a boat and navigate the open waters of the large lake to see a small floating village and learn about this incredible natural flood barrier. All animals live on water, pigs, dogs, chickens, ducks and of course people, all competing for space in this incredible floating city.

We continue the trip to Kampong Kdei, this was an ancient Angkor route that we can see one of the ancient Angkor bridges built in the 12th century. Spean Praptos or local resident called Dragon Bridge, it has over 20 arches and is a spectacular sight, reinforcing the impression that the Khmers were like the Romans of Southeast Asia. The bridge is in good condition and looks impressive

Our road trip continues to Sambor Prei Kuk in Kampong Thom province. There local guides await to welcome you and to show you the cluster of pre- Cambodia’s most impressive Angkorian temple, Sambor Prei Kuk encompasses around two hundred brick temples scattered throughout the forest located in this province, including some of the oldest in the country. The Sambor Prei Kuk temples were the second capital of the Khmer Empire and built in the 7th century by King Isanvarman I when he succeeded in uniting the territories of Chenla Kork and the Khmer water territory of Chenla Toek. Sambor Prei Kuk was the capital of the Khmer Empire for many centuries. We then explore the major temples here, including Prasat Tao with its elaborately headdressed lions and Prasat Sambor, with its ruined shrines.

It is 75 km before Phnom Penh, there is the option to take a break at Skuon, affectionately known as Spiderville Cambodia, the popular place for Cambodian and foreign travelers where it is possible to taste the local delicacy of tarantula fried and other fried insects. We make a short stop to explore this market in Spider Town, you can also try various seasonal local fruits from the region and islands in the Mekong River. However, if you don’t want to taste spider, cricket, scorpion, grasshopper or other insects, this is also a good place to take pictures.

You will arrive at your hotel to check in around sunset time and the entire journey takes approximately 10 hours.
