We start the trip from Siem Reap after your breakfast and travel northwest towards the trading town of Svay Sisophon via national road number 6 from Siem Reap 165 km from the amazing jungle temple of Banteay Chhmar. The temples are located in the province of Banteay Meanchey and about 20 km east of the Thai border. and the temple was built during the reign of Jayavarman VII in the late 12th or early 13th century. On arrival we visit the magnificent sculptures of Lokesvara with 32 arms, nicknamed lok sam-pee or Mr. 32 by the Khmers, as well as the magnificent hall of dancers. One of the shrines in the temple once contained an image of Srindrakumara rajaputra (the crown prince), probably a son of Jayavarman VII. The long inscription in Old Khmer found on the site. The temple complex, its moat, Baray (water reservoir) and the surrounding unspoiled environment constitute a unique archaeological site and a vital link in the cultural heritage of Cambodia. For these reasons, it is now one of Cambodia’s top priorities for UNESCO World Heritage listing. Its remoteness from Angkor Wat partly explains the lack of in-depth documentation and study of the temple. There are big beehives on the branch of the big temple trees where you can do great photo ops.
After climbing among this sleeping giant, we continue to explore the outer complex, including the outer gate of Ta Prohm, a smaller cousin of the impressive gates of Angkor Thom and protected by a moat and the jungle-covered frontal tower of Samnang Tasok. We continue south to the enigmatic temple of Banteay Toap. Here the central tower has collapsed, only to be rebuilt and looks like a precarious tower of building blocks. Then we leave the temple and travel to Svay Sisophon and to Siem Reap and stop at Preah Netr Preah to see the villagers making stone carvings of Buddha.
We return to Siem Reap for some rest and relaxation after your wonderful adventurous trip with us.
